KRUMME MONUMENT COMPANY
History

On January 2, 1941, Walter Krumme got a letter from his “Uncle Sam” to come visit him at Fort Bliss in Texas. Of course being the good nephew, he quit his job at Ahlbrand’s cabinet factory to go join his “Uncle Sam” along with several other nephews in the Army’s 1st Cavalry Division. Before getting called to serve in the south Pacific, Walt married his sweetheart Margaret EuDaly on May 23, 1942.
On August 14, 1945, Walter returned to Seymour after serving his country. Within 2 weeks after his return, Walt went back to work at his old job at the cabinet factory. He later began selling life insurance for the Empire Life Insurance Company.
In 1951, his friend Leonard Auffenberg who was selling monuments for Fewell Monument Company, asked Walt if he would like to take over his position as he was moving out of town. After interviewing with the owner Gordon Fewell, Walt began his career in the monument business and since then has helped hundreds and hundreds of families select their memorials. A year later, Walter took on a second job with a local Seymour funeral home where he worked until 1999.
In January 1964, his good friend and mentor Gordon Fewell passed away at the age of 54. With Gordon’s death, his future looked just a little unclear in the monument industry. It was in that year he began working with a young man by the name of Terry S. Fewell, Gordon’s son. Together with the help and loyalty of both men, Krumme Monuments and Fewell Monument Company have developed into the respected companies they are today for quality, workmanship and value.
Sadly on August 18, 2004, Walter Krumme passed after a full life at the age of 85. With over a half century of service to the families of Jackson County and the surrounding areas, Walt will truly be missed.
With a lot of companies the story would end there, but the Krumme Monument Company lives on. Walt’s grandson, Mike Bequeret has taken up the torch and began his career where his grandfather started over 53 years ago. Mike is ready to help your family whenever the need might arise or help you pre-plan your family’s memorial. We are still here at 1302 N Ewing Street (St Rd 11), just south of the Riverview Cemetery.
